The Citrus Family: Winter's Best Friends
IT'S NEVER JUST A "CITRUS GROVE"...
Whether there are orange trees, lemons or mandarins for a Sicilian it’s never just a ‘citrus grove’. These cultivations have such importance that Sicilians refer to them using the term "garden" instead ( “jardinu” in Sicilian) as to signify a place where science and tradition fuse, modern techniques and sensuality go hand in hand. For us at MaDi Fruit, it is a masterpiece to show with pride and to enjoy in silence.
Every story has a central chapter, where the plot takes shape and everything becomes clear. In our case the leading role is played by the orange. Particularly the Blood Orange of Sicily and for this we need to dedicate a paragraph entirely to them:
“Mandarine, Clementine & Co.” represents another world of discovery with an distinctive flavour. Small but with real intensity, they deserve a whole section of our story:
Lemons
In Sicily, the cultivation of lemons has ancient roots, even though they were initially used merely as ornaments. During springtime, especially in the South-Eastern part of the island, the air is filled with the scent of orange and lemon blossom and lemon trees define the landscape. Thanks to all its different varieties, this product has the longest harvest calendar out of all our citrus fruit.
